Many people ask, why do I need Jesus? What can He give me, that I cannot give myself? And many more questions along those lines. Below are a few commonly asked questions, their answers, and how to know Jesus as your personal LORD and SAVIOR.
1. Well why do I need Jesus, if I'm not a bad person?
Answer: Romans 3:23 " for all have sinned and all fall short of the glory of God" Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Two verses mention the word sin, which means the breaking of God's law. The payment then for breaking God's law is death, but the gift that is mention is eternal life. This gift can be given to you because Jesus died on the cross in payment for your sins.
2. If some of the things I like are called "sin" but don't harm anyone else, what's so bad about them? And why do they feel so right?
Answer: Isaiah 59:2 "But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
Sin is more harmful than people think. In these two verses we see that our sin separates us from God, and that ultimately if left alone, its end could lead us to a spiritual death, even if the sin seems right to being with.
3. I'm not ready to give my life to Jesus, even if life is too short, can I just do it later in life?
Answer: James 4:14 "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." Psalm 103: 15-16 "As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more." 2 Corinthians 6:2 "Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
The truth is many people try and wait till later to make Jesus their Savior, but sadly they either don't live to see the day, or forget all together, or they try and reason why they can put it off, but tomorrow is not promised to anyone. There is no better time than now to give your life to Jesus.
4. I believe in Jesus, but is there any other way of getting into heaven?
Answer: John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
The Bible makes it simple for us, Jesus is our only way of salvation. The only means to enter heaven, the only way to a right relationship with God.
5. I want to give my life to Jesus, but I've done a lot of bad things, how do I know Jesus wants me, and He'll forgive me?
Answer: 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins." John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
See the Bible teaches us that more than anything, God loves us. So much so that He sent His only Son Jesus to die for our sins, so that we could have a relationship with Him. The Bible teaches us that no matter what you have done, Jesus can forgive you, and He will if you ask Him to.
6. What do I have to do to be saved? Acts 16:31 says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." Romans 10:9-10 says "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
If you want to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can start by repeating this simple prayer.
Lord Jesus I am a sinner, but I believe you died on the cross for me, that You shed Your blood for the forgiveness of my sins, and I believe on the third day You rose from the dead. I believe that You're in heaven preparing a place for me, please come into my heart and help me to follow You all the days of my life. In JESUS name I pray, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer and believed it with all your heart the bible says you're now a part of the family of God, and we would love to hear from you. Please write to us and tell us about your experience. We hope to see you at one of our many services. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. John 1:12 "but as many as have received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God."
